Giancarlo Flores was conferred a Bachelor of Sciences with mention in Civil Engineering by the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, and he later received a degree of Master of Engineering and a degree of Doctor in Global Environmental Studies by Kyoto University, in Japan. In Peru, Dr. Flores worked for the engineering, the operations, and the commercial departments at Shell Perú and, in Japan, he was Lecturer and Associate Professor for the Graduate School of Engineering at Kyoto University. His research interests focus on the field of geo-environmental engineering, with a particular emphasis on the study of soil contamination and its reuse as construction material. In 2012, he was awarded with the “Best Paper Award” for a paper on this topic published the previous year in the journal Soils and Foundations.
