IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) is the second largest society of the world´s largest technical professorial organization for the advancement of technology IEEE with 40, 000 members in 150 countries. Each year apart from the global engagement through local chapters,  its general meeting(GM) would be the most important and largest gathering of the researchers, scientists, engineers and leaders from universities and industries all over the world to share the latest development of the Power and Energy technologies.

On August 3 2020, Mr. Frank Lambert, the IEEE PES president opened the meeting online through the simultaneous live panel session. It was a great week with various panel sessions, presentation, poster sessions and people involved except personal interaction. UTEC energy also had Dr. Lei Zhang joining the panel sessions of our interested topics  including ¨Developing Tools for the Design and Commissioning of HVDC and FACTS system-The Canadian Expertise and Experience¨ , Avoiding hybrid AC DC transmission line cascading outages and Recent HVDC and FACTS refurbishment, installations, and special controls and economic choices. We also join the session in broad topics such as Impact of Covid-19 Pandemic on the Electrical Energy Industry and Predictive Big Data Analytics for Outage Management.

This year almost all of the conferences in IEEE PES would be moved to virtual format. It would be a great opportunity for many people to saves time and energy to not travel but stay at home for a great international conference and last but not least it is economic for everyone including students. https://www.ieee-pes.org/
